Piping or Drumming Lessons

The cost for lessons through the band is $15.00 per week. This includes weekly lessons of one-half hour duration. Mesa Caledonian Pipe Band will try to accommodate all lesson applicants. However, all our instructors are volunteers and acceptance for lessons depends on availability of lesson slots in the schedules of our instructors. You may be placed on a waiting list. Lessons are primarily held on Tuesday evenings. If you are unavailable on that evening we may or may not be able to accommodate you, but contact us anyway, as we may be able to suggest other alternatives or instructors.

Piping student applicants must have a practice chanter. DO NOT BUY PIPES UNTIL YOU DISCUSS THIS WITH US. MANY MUSIC STORES, DEALERS, and e-bay SELLERS SELL SUBSTANDARD PIPES. DO NOT TAKE THE SELLER'S WORD FOR THE SUITABILITY OF THEIR PIPES. WE HAVE SEEN TOO MANY STUDENTS WHO HAVE PURCHASED PIPES THAT ARE NOT GOOD MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS AND ARE ONLY SUITABLE FOR HANGING ON A WALL. You DO NOT need "how to play" books or tapes. Practice Chanters may be purchased from:

Plastic chanters are preferred. Whether you get a Regular or Full-sized chanter depends on your finger size and preference. Discuss this with the supplier, as all are knowledgeable. Most have toll-free telephone numbers.

Snare Drum students must have a drum practice pad and sticks. If we have a lesson slot for you we will contact you and provide details. We will obtain sticks for tenor and bass drum students.

Call 480-641-8073 or email David Hossack for drumming, and Chris Hossack for piping.
