12/09/01 - Happy Holidays and Another Season Over!

Happy holidays from the Mesa Caledonian Pipe Band! We thank our supporters, friends and fellow competitors for their endless encouragement and donations to our successful Scotland trip and a fun competition season. See you next summer!!!

09/08/01 - Seeking Corporate Sponsorship

The band is actively seeking sponsorship from corporations to help promote our student program, performances and future tours to Scotland in 2003. Mesa Caledonian is willing to provide entertainment for corporate/civic events, appear on television/radio, and travel to promote our sponsor's name, in turn for donations and support. 09/08/01 - Pleasanton Highland Games

Rest? Sleep? Who needs that?? Mesa Caledonian traveled to Pleasanton, California to compete at the Caledonian Club of San Fransisco Highland Games. Having put on respectable performances on each day, the band placed 7th overall. Drum Major Kevin MacHeffner placed 2nd on Saturday, and 3rd in his discipline.

This marks the end of a successful competition season for the band. Mesa Caledonian now goes into its concert season.

08/15/01 - Mesa Caledonian Returns from Scotland 10th in the World!

Mesa Caledonian Pipe Band placed 10th in the World Pipe Band Championships on Saturday, August 11th at Glasgow Green in Scotland. This was the band's first time out at the Worlds, and made quite a respectable showing.

Several soloists from the band competed in their disciplines as well. Kevin MacHeffner, the band's Drum Major placed 1st at the Perth Highland Games, along with 2nd at both Inverkeithing and Bridge of Allan, and a top 10 performance at the Worlds. Mike McKee, John Ramsey and Andrew Walker also competed in solo piping events during the Scotland trip.

05/28/01 - Successful Weekend at Costa Mesa!

Mesa Caledonian spent the weekend in Costa Mesa, California competing at the United Scottish Society Highland Games. The band placed 1st in the Grade 3 Medley, and 2nd in the March, Strathspey and Reel. With the trip to Scotland only two months away, the win for the band is especially exciting.

Several solo competitors within the band placed well and deserve recognition. Congrats go to Drake Dauben, Nigel Forrest, Lois Kohlmeyer, Kevin MacHeffner, Becca Mayfield, Mike McKee and Andy Walker.

05/08/01 - New Musicians Join MCPB This Season

Several new faces have joined the ranks of Mesa Caledonian Pipe Band, just in time for the 2001 competition season. Chuck Burgin, formerly a Pipe Major of Seven Pipers Society joins us from Tucson, Arizona. Nigel Forrest has made a big move from Scotland to the Phoenix area, and brings many years of solo and band experience to the band, having recently played with the Grade 1 Scottish Power. In the drum corps, Rebecca Mayfield joins us from Flagstaff. Rebecca is a rising star on the tenor drum, and will play an important role in the debut of MCPB's dynamic bass section this season.

02/28/01 - Queen Mary and Arizona Competition Results

Mesa Caledonian Pipe Band recently competed at two WUSPBA contests: The Queen Mary Scottish Festival on Feb. 10-11th, and the Arizona Scottish Gathering on Feb. 24-25th.

Queen Mary Grade 3:

2nd: Mesa Caledonian

2nd: Utah Pipe Band

02/04/01 - It's time for the HIGHLAND GAMES!

The fields of Mesa Community College suddenly look more like Scotland. Come see the local Mesa Caledonian Pipe Band, Spirit of Scotland Pipe Band, highland dancers, Scottish athletes, British cars and British food! Learn more about the highland games from the Caledonian Society of Arizona. See you there!

02/04/01 - News from the WUSPBA AGM

The Mesa Caledonian Pipe Band was well represented at the Annual General Meeting of the Western United States Pipe Band Association (WUSPBA) on February 3rd, 2001 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Chris Hossack, Dianne Nunez, and Kevin MacHeffner took part in a panel on fundraising for piping organizations which included topics such as applying for grants and web site development for marketing purposes. Also of note, Kevin MacHeffner was named WUSPBA Champion of Champions Drum Major for the 2000 season!

01/06/01 - Celtic Concert Proves To Be Smashing Success!

Thank you to all of our wonderful fans, friends, and family for making the Celtic Concert on January 5th a smashing success! Over 500 people turned out to see Rich Bailey & Friends, McElligot's Irish Dance Company, and the Mesa Caledonian Pipe Band and Dancers. We appreciate your ongoing support and look forward to seeing you at future events.

01/03/01 - Holiday Gift Fair Results

We're pleased to announce that our Amazon.Com fundraiser helped raise a considerable amount of money for the pipe band's goal of competing in Scotland. Between October 2000 and January 1st, 2001, Mesa Caledonian attracted over 130 unique visits to Amazon with over 60 orders!
